Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin hopes the 2015 Budget to be tabled on Oct 10, would not punish the future of the country's sports, following the failure of athletes in two major competitions.
Khairy said though athletes had failed to shine in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Incheon Asian Games, the country's sport still need the tonic to serve as an impetus to compete on the international stage.
"Maybe after the bitter experience in Glasgow and Incheon, people may question the need to spend money on sports but that would be punishing sports as a whole.
"The experience in Glasgow and Incheon is a signal that our legacy and achievement of the 1998 Commonwealth Games has ended and we need a new legacy for the future," he told reporters after launching Malaysia's first professional badminton league called Kopiko Purple League.
Kopiko Purple League will be staged at the Sports Arena in Taman Sentosa from Oct 25 to Feb 1 and feature 12 teams.
