Khairy then shared some good memories of his life to his followers on Instagram.
Arriving in Tokyo, Japan for an official visit, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was overwhelmed by emotions.
In a post on his official Instagram account, Khairy shared a snippet of his childhood, recalled how he grew up in Tokyo.
Khairy said he lived in Tokyo when he was 5 years-old, as his father worked at the Malaysian Embassy there.
“I'm feeling kind of nostalgic and sentimental. I just arrived in Tokyo for an official visit. I grew up in Tokyo, arriving when I was five and leaving after I turned 10,” he wrote on Instagram.
Khairy then shared some good memories of his life to his followers.
“I thought it would be nice to start off my visit by paying homage to my late old man. The tie I am wearing today was his tie that he got in Tokyo some 30 plus years ago.
“It's a classic floral design made by Hanae Mori that was typical of 1980s Japan. I still remember him wearing it to office when I was a young boy,” he added.
He said the vintage tie he was wearing was not the type one would pick up at a flea market or a hipster shop, but rather one with meaning and heritage.
“The kind of vintage that you pass on to the next generation that reminds me where I came from and pays tribute to the greatest man I've ever known,” Khairy noted.
The post had garnered more than 13,000 likes on Instagram, with more than 250 comments.
