Khairy supports contest for Umno Youth leadership post

Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin said he supported the proposal to have a contest for the movement's leadership post at the coming party election.

"I respect the views of the grassroots if they want the Umno Youth chief post to be contested," he told reporters after meeting residents of Taman Pinggiran Senawang here today.

He was asked to comment on a resolution by the Johor Umno Youth at its special meeting yesterday, for the movement's top post to be contested at the coming party election.

Khairy, who has led the movement since 2008, refuted concern among some quarters that by having a contest for the post it could create split among party members.

Asked whether he would defend the post, Khairy said it was too early for him to decide the matter.

He said he would have to consider various aspects and get the views of his colleagues before making the decision.
