Khairy welcomes anyone to contest Umno Youth chief post

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he had no problems if his post would be contested and welcomed anyone interested to vie for it.

Khairy, who will be defending his post in the party elections next month, said he had an open mind about a contest for the movement's top post.

"I welcome anyone to contest an Umno Youth post including the head post.

"The party constitution was amended four years ago, providing no hindrance to anyone from being nominated for the Umno Youth chief post or for any party post," he said when met by reporters after witnessing the signing of the sponsorship agreement for the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Golf Challenge, here, today.

Khairy was asked to comment on the intention of a few individuals including Akkramsyah Sanusi, the son of former minister and former Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, to contest the Umno Youth top post.

On former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's suggestion for young leaders to be given more opportunities to move up in the upcoming party elections, Khairy said this had been the practice in the party all this while.

He said rejunenation of the patry was always happening but it needed to be boosted further.

"Umno always requires generational transition and the emergence of young leaders is important to combine them with the more experienced leaders in the interest of the party," he added.
