Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will be giving a briefing on the recently inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on water issue to members of Parliament in Selangor and the state assemblymen.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the details of the MoU will be revealed at the briefing in Shah Alam, Wednesday evening.

“All Selangor MPs and state assemblymen will be attending the briefing,” he said at a press conference at the Pas headquarters, Wednesday.

“This is being done because such briefing was never done before and we in Pakatan Rakyat have asked the Menteri Besar to be more careful especially in his statements on the MoU signed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Anwar said the Pakatan Rakyat Council has agreed to send its three representatives to attend the briefing.

The three are DAP national vice-chairman Tan Kok Wai, PAS central member Dr Dzulkefli Ahmad and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution.

The three will also advise Abdul Khalid not to do things in a hurry, he added.

The Federal and Selangor governments last week have signed a MoU on the restructuring of the state's water supply industry which has dragged on for five years.

Under the MoU, the state government will issue a development order for the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2) and its distribution system (LRAL2) (Package 2A).

In addition, the federal government is ready to inject additional funds to enable the state government to take over water concession companies and manage water supply in the state through a state-owned company.

The restructuring exercise is essential in ensuring sustainable and efficient water supply services in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
