Khalid: I bought the bus with my own money

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the purchase of a double decker bus to be used by the opposition during the campaigning period in the 13th general election was self-funded and did not involve funds from the state government.

Abdul Khalid said he purchased the bus via higher-purchase and he paid RM10,833 in monthly instalments for the bus which is worth almost RM650,000.

"I personally purchased the bus and I encourage the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to look into this and I will provide them with the relevant documents," he said in reply to a question from Datuk Mohamad Satim Diman (BN-Seri Serdang) on the first day of the Selangor state assembly sitting here today.

Mohamad Satim had asked whether the state government carried out audits to ensure the bus purchase transaction was correct, transparent and responsible.

Abdul Khalid had previously said the rental for the bus was self-funded for six months and the bus would travel all over Peninsular Malaysia, especially to rural areas to introduce the opposition leaders to the people.

The bus, registered under Abdul Khalid's name with a licence issued by the Road Transport Department, can carry up to 19 passengers and is furnished with a mini-stage and sophisticated audio system.
