Children and youths must be equipped with knowledge on cyber crimes which are becoming rampant, said the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
She said this group must be taught how to surf the internet wisely to ensure that negative impacts from the internet would not bring any harm to them, their family or the country.
With a total of 17.5 million internet users in the country, she said the problem of social depravity frequently occurred due to the irresponsible use of the internet.
"Currently, various cases involving the cyber world among the social media users have been reported.
"Thus, I hope the children will think rationally first instead of being influenced by emotion when surfing the internet so that our action will not bring negative impact to ourselves and the country," she said when officiating the Girl Guides Carnival and Girl Guides Go Down On The Ground, here today.
In this regard, Rosmah, who is also the President of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia, urged that programmes such as 'safe on the net' which focused on the cyber world education involving students be widened further.
She said the programme, which was carried out by the Putrajaya Branch of the Girl Guides since October, had received full cooperation from Cybersecurity Malaysia, an agency under the Science, Technology and Innovations Ministry.
"Forty leaders of the Girl Guides Putrajaya Branch had been selected to become Cybersafe Little Ambassadors to handle cyber threats so that they would become responsible cyber users.
"I hope that the association will continue to plan and implement programmes continuously to give exposure to members of the Girl Guides throughout Malaysia on the skills required so that they can disseminate the knowledge to all members of the community," she said.
Earlier, she witnessed a parade by members of the Girl Guides representing the whole state participated by more than 650 participants.
