The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia continues to act proactively in collaboration with international platforms to curb the spread of false information by closing nearly 2,000 fake accounts identified in the country
Its minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said it was undertaken in collaboration with the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media platforms.
"But the problem of fake accounts will continue because these fake accounts are housted abroad. So we have to work with them and we have a good cooperation," he said at a press conference after officiating the Lumut UMNO Division delegates conference here today.
Salleh said the spread of fake news as well as attacks on certain individuals made through social media should be given due attention because it gave a negative impact on the society and nation.
"If they are angry with the leaders, they open a fake FB account by using a pseudonym, criticise any leader they are not interested in, then delete the account.
"That's why almost 2,000 fake accounts have been identified and we have delete them," he said.-- BERNAMA
