KL records drastic decline in street crime rate in 2015
The street crime rate in the federal capital showed a drastic decline of 37.7 per cent or by 439 cases last year compared to 2014.
The street crime rate in the federal capital showed a drastic decline of 37.7 per cent or by 439 cases last year compared to 2014.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Zainol Samah said throughout the whole of last year, 675 cases of street crimes such as robberies and thefts were recorded, a decrease of 1,114 cases from the previous year.
"The crime index rate under Dang Wangi (police headquarters) recorded a decline of 13.6 percent or 648 cases last year compared to 2014," he told reporters at the Dang Wangi District Police headquarters, Tuesday.
He said the crime rate was reduced to 4,120 cases in 2015 from 4,768 cases recorded in 2014.
"This is due to ongoing efforts in terms of prevention and intelligence as well public information that allows the police to combat crime.
"In addition, the placement of mobile stations and patrols by patrol vehicles and motorcycle patrol unit in focused areas such as Jalan Ampang, Bukit Bintang and Central Market have been effective in reducing crime index," he said.
