The Klang fireworks display mishap clearly proved poor governance by the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government, said state Gerakan Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk David Ang Chin Tat.
He said it was totally unacceptable for a local authority like Klang Municipal Council (MPK) for not applying permit to hold the fireworks display and hiring an unlicensed fireworks operator to usher the new year.
"It is absolutely unacceptable that the MPK, whose duty is to issue and enforce various licenses and permits, did not apply for a permit nor use a licensed fireworks operator, thus putting up 15,000 members of the public at risk," he said in a statement.
Early Sunday morning, a total of 14 people, four of whom were children, were injured when they were hit by fragments of fireworks when it exploded on the ground at the Pandamaran Sports Complex during the new year celebration.
MPK was the organiser of the Gegar Klang Fiesta from Dec 30 to Jan 1.
David Ang stressed that Selangor government should be held responsible for its failure and criminal negligence in performing its duties to the people of Selangor.
He also called for immediate resignation of Selangor executive councillor in charge of local government, Ean Yong Hian Wah, and those found to have been responsible for the slip-up.
