KUALA LUMPUR: Former Selangor Football Association (FAS) administrator and co-founder of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA), M. Joseph Vincent, died yesterday at 90.
The news of his demise was announced by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) via a post on their official Facebook page.
According to the statement, Joseph who was KLFA council member until 1995, was a pillar of FAS development administration who served as the youth development secretary and also introduced the late Datuk Mokhtar Dahari to the Selangor Burnley Cup squad under the late Abdullah Yeop Nordin in 1971.
The rapid growth of football around the Klang Valley prompted Vincent together with the late Dato K. Rasalingam along with several leaders from FAS to form the Association's pro-tem committee Federal Territory Football in 1974.
The idea was mainly to establish a football association to fund the sports activities in the Federal Territory.
His passion for football was apparent, even after he underwent a bypass surgery in 1997, Joseph was actively dabbling in the Ex-International Malaysian Football Association.
Joseph, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Jan 22, is survived by his wife Betty, three children, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
“Very sad day today as our wonderful Hero left us to be with Our Lord.” said his daughter Susan Duff via a post on her Facebook yesterday.
