The Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) has been renamed and will be known as the Tournament Players Club Kuala Lumpur (TPCKL) starting yesterday.
The new identity sets another milestone for the club's history following its successful acquisition of the licensing rights as Southeast Asia's first golf facility to join the Professional Golf Association (PGA) tour's tournament.
TPCKL chairman Datuk Jauhari Hamidi said the agreement with PGA Tour is a recognition of TPCKL's tournament-grade golf courses.
"It is a recognition for our world-class facilities and services as well as commitment to excellence. With this new relationship, we aspire to elevate TPCKL's status further as the number one golf club in Southeast Asia.
"These include the areas of operations, club management, human capital development, food and beverage as well as leisure management service," he said in announcing the new name for KLGCC, here Wednesday.
The launch was graced by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah. Also present was TPCKL CEO Steven Thielke and Yayasan Sime Darby chairman Tun Musa Hitam.
The rebranding of KLGCC comes after the recent news of Sime Darby Property's concurrent rebranding of KLGCC Resort to Alya Kuala Lumpur, the new master brand for the upcoming property development projects within the 61 acre land surrounding the iconic world class golf course.
