KPDNKK will quickly solve 'pork free' issue - Hamzah

Its Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the ministry would give attention towards correcting the definition and usage of the terms.

"KPDNKK will look into amending and selecting a specific definition and usage to avoid any confusion and doubt," he told reporters after handing over the ministry's 2015 excellence service awards at the Bank Rakyat Twin Tower here, today. Also present was KPDNKK secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Hamzah said KPDNKK would cooperate with the Malaysian Immigration Department, local authorities and other enforcement units in conducting raids on premises of locals who handed over the operations of their shops to foreign workers.

"We want to ensure the licences are used in the best possible manner," he said.

Meanwhile, in PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia Islamic Development Department director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha said the Malaysian Halal Logo was the best guide for all consumers especially Muslims in picking food premises.

"Maybe restaurant owners using the signs "Pork Free" and "No Pork, No Lard" have their own reasons for doing so, but in reality such signs can confuse consumers especially Muslims," he said in a statement here, today.

He said applications for Malaysian Halal Certifications had been simplified via the e-halal system to encourage entrepreneurs to apply for the certificate.
