KTMB, SPAD will discuss Komuter ticket prices for children - Liow
Liow says SPAD will talk to KTMB to ensure that KTM Komuter tickets for children aged between 7 and 12 won't be the same as adults'.
The government has urged Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) to revise Komuter ticket prices for children aged seven and above as it will be charging the adult fare for them starting Dec 2.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the matter would be discussed between the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and KTMB soon.
"Maybe there is a communication breakdown...although KTMB has announced ticket fares for children age seven to 12 being the same as for adults, we do not agree with that decision.
"So SPAD will talk to KTMB to ensure that (the fares) will continue (according to) the old policy," he told reporters after launching the first China High-Speed Railway (CSR) Showcase here, Friday.
On Wednesday, KTMB through their official Twitter account had announced ticket fares for children age seven and above to be same as for adults.
This has received a lot of complaints from the people.
Before this, KTMB president Lt Kol (R) Sarbini Tijan said train fares were set to rise from Dec 2, with the highest fare being RM7.10 for a single trip.
Sarbini also added that primary and secondary school students as well as undergraduates who travel via Komuter trains were set to enjoy a 50 percent discount on fares.
KTM Komuter fares have not been increased since Feb 2003.
