UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today urged UMNO Batu Kawan deputy chief Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan to retract his police report against 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister described Khairuddin's actions as 'unbecoming, unfair and childish'.
He added that the move was not UMNO's stand, neither was it the stand of Penang UMNO state liaison.
"This is the problem among UMNO members who do not understand the party's struggle. We cannot (blindly) listen to things circulating on the internet, websites and social media.
"Don't fall into these ridiculous perceptions made by the Opposition. I don't understand why he (Khairuddin) had to make that police report," he said.
Tengku Adnan also said he had contacted Penang UMNO regarding the matter and was informed that the state liaison was discussing the issue for further actions.
Asked whether he felt that disciplinary action should be taken against Khairuddin, he said that the matter would be considered but up until now, Khairuddin has not violated any party ethics.
"I will consider the suggestion by the state liaison. If he violates any of the party's ethics, we will take action, but he hasn't done that yet so we shall see what he will do next," he said.
Besides that, Tengku Adnan also said that he planned to meet up with Khairuddin to give him some word of advice and have him withdraw the police report.
He said 1MDB has made many contributions towards the country and like any other companies, face profit and losses.
Tengku Adnan advised other UMNO members to always ask and discuss should there be any problems, and not to listen to anything said by the Opposition as it would only lead to trouble.
"Why should we be caught in the lies of the Opposition?" he questioned.
Yesterday, Khairuddin lodged a police report against 1MDB for alleged mismanagement of funds by the government-owned agency.
He called for a thorough investigation to address and identify the root of the problem that is facing 1MDB and its subsidiaries.
He also said that he is prepared for any reaction from the Umno Supreme Council, the party's disciplinary committee, as well as the party secretary-general.
Recently, the inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police was in the midst of investigating 1MDB and its board of directors.
Khalid in a statement said the investigations will be handled by Commercial Crimes Investigative Department (CCID).
