Kelantan is again experiencing an unusual cold spell after the mercury in several districts falling to between 19 to 20 degrees Celsius.
The unusually cold weather began three days ago especially at night and in the early morning.
In Kuala Krai, flood victims who have been housed in temporary tents set up outside their homes have taken to wearing socks and thick blankets.
This is not the first time temperatures have dipped in the area.
Last year temperatures fell to 17.2 degrees Celsius in Kuala Krai while in the Cameron Highlands it fell to 12.3 degrees Celsius.
UKM’s Geography and Urban Climate expert, Prof. Datuk Dr Shaharuddin Ahmad said, the phenomenon is primarily attributed to cold and dry winds from Siberia.
This, he added, causes high-pressure winds to blow across the Southeast Asian region including Malaysia which is currently going through the monsoon season.
