Labourer gets three years jail for threatening mum with knife

The accused is ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Oct 19.
A labourer will be spending three years in jail for threatening his mother with a knife on Oct 17.
The accused, Safein Bakar, 46, was handed the sentence after pleading guilty to committing the offence before Magistrate Nik Habri Muhamad here today.
Nik Habri ordered the accused to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on Oct 19.
According to the facts, the accused had threatened his mother, Bidah Ali, 72, with the knife while uttering
"Aku bunuh mu bui mapuh mu male ni" (I will murder you tonight in the Kelantanese dialect) at an unnumbered house in Kampung Kiat Sering, Binjai, here at 8pm on Oct 17, 2014.
He was liable to be jailed up to seven years and fined or both.
Deputy public prosecutor Noor Dayana Mohamad appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
