Land Rover's Sci-fi film

Land Rover’s sci-fi short film brings travellers a unique experience. By Jerrica Leong
Is Land Rover joining the film industry? They recently released a short film titled “Galactic Discovery”. The film starts with characters boarding spacecraft, climaxed with them enjoying zero-gravity up in space and ends with the landing of the spacecraft that resembles the landing of a normal aircraft. It all sounds very sci-fi-ish but while my film critique side ermerges to complain that there’s too much CGI to suit my taste, overall it’s not too bad.
I’m kidding, this short film is only a minute long and it’s more of an advertisement then a film. The footage is to let space fans know about the competition that Land Rover is currently holding. It will send four lucky winners on a trip to space for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to look at mother earth in a different light.
Worth over $US1m, the top prize will see the winners take a one-week trip to the US, where they will undergo three days of training and preparation at the Foster + Partners designed Spaceport America in New Mexico, before heading off to space.
Land Rover knew that the appetite for space travel is huge around the world but enthusiasts know very little about that area. Thus enters the short film to help educate competition entrants as much as possible about the prize that they would win.
Narration came from Virgin Galactic’s Vice President of Operations, Mike Moses, just the right person to introduce entrants to the world of commercial space travellers. Land Rover is proud to say that Moses came to Virgin Galactic after a distinguished career with NASA. Travellers can rest assure that they are in safe hands when they jump in the Mach 3.5 vertical rocket ride.
