Landslide near MACC academy building, 76 evacuated

KUALA LUMPUR: A landslide occurred near the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACC), Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Jalan Duta, affecting an area of 1,115 square meters.
Senior Operations Commander of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Kuala Lumpur, Yogeswaran Elangovan, confirmed that an emergency call was received at 1.54pm, reporting the collapse of a security hut in the building due to the incident.
"Upon arrival, it was discovered that the landslide had occurred in front of the academy's entrance. As a precautionary measure, the 76 occupants in the building were evacuated, and no casualties or injuries were reported," Yogeswaran said in a statement here on Tuesday.
A total of 38 individuals were successfully rescued from two different locations.
"Among them, there were 17 men and 21 women rescued from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy building, and 19 men and 19 women rescued from the Integrity building," Yogeswaran added.
Early investigation revealed that the ground movement was still occurring, suspected to be caused by a broken underground pipe.
He also stated that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Public Works, and Selangor Water Department (Syabas) were present at the site for further action.
