Filepic of the landslide that occurred in Genting Highlands Tuesday morning. Genting Malaysia Berhad says the area where the incident happened was part of the untouched forest topography at Resort World Genting.
Genting Malaysia Berhad (GENM) said a landslide that occurred at KM4.2 in Genting Highlands early yesterday morning was part of the untouched forest topography at Resort World Genting.
GENM in a statement Tuesday said there was no habitation or activity within the vicinity of the natural slope.
"Our expert consultants have inspected the mudslide, and measures to preserve and strengthen the slope are being put in place. Clearing of the debris is ongoing and traffic flow on Genting Highlands road is expected to return to normal by Wednesday morning," the statement said.
GENM added that the company had its own slope management programme in place since 1994 which was carried out and monitored by expert consultants in accordance with prescribed hill slope development guides.
"We have instrumentation in place to monitor and record slope and building movement at Resorts World Genting, and the readings are analysed by expert consultants and reported on a monthly basis," the statement added.
Annually, GENM spends over RM4 million on monitoring, recording of slope and building movement, slope preservation, slope strengthening and slope retention.
