Langat, Cheras water treatment plants back in operation

Selangor Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs executive council member Elizabeth Wong said the Selangor Water Management's river surveillance team and the Pahang Department of Environment were still looking to identify the cause of the pollution.

She said relief water supply would continue to be delivered to affected areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling and Hulu Langat as a short-term measure to overcome the problem.

"The water supply will be delivered by tankers as scheduled, including to critical premises, such a hospital and dialysis centres," she said in a statement here today.

The two plants were shut down at 8.30pm and 10pm, respectively yesterday due to the odour pollution.

Recently, the Semenyih water treatment plant was closed four times following contamination in Sungai Semenyih which resulted in water disruption in several areas such as Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sepang and Petaling.
