A 27-year-old law student, said to be the nephew of a deputy minister, became the first person to jump off the Penang bridge at about 2.40pm on Wednesday.
South-West District Police Chief, Supt Lai Fah Hin said, the victim is currently being treated at a hospital in Penang and is reported to be in stable condition.
He added, the student is believed to have attempted to commit suicide on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge which was officially opened on Saturday.
