Vice Chairman of the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye personally agreed with the opinion given by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup who stated that the ‘race’ column in all forms in the country should be eliminated.
Lee said that the opinion given by the Sabah minister will be discussed by the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) as soon as the eight sessions are completed.
“I personally agree with the views given by Tan Sri Joseph Kurup and I have mentioned the same earlier.
“But that was my personal opinion, what was said by Tan Sri Joseph Kurup will be discussed by NUCC after this, as soon as all dialogue sessions are complete,” said Lee after the first session of the (NUCC): Voice of the Grassroots at Dewan bahasa and Pustaka, here on Saturday.
During the opening speech of the Dialogue, Joseph said that it was time for the race column in all forms nationwide to be eliminated.
"After 50 years since the formation of Malaysia, sadly we are still separated by race and religious identity.
"Maybe it's time to eliminate the need to name our race in any form in this country," said Kurup during the opening ceremony of the Unity Dialogue at Auditorium Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), here on Saturday.
