EVENINGS on Malaysian TV need not be the same anymore.
Fans of late night television have reason to stay indoors – or if they must; be up and about painting the town red but still keep a beady eye on their mobile, and be in tuned with the news.
Turn on the TV , or whip out your phones and for one hour daily – former morning business news radio host Sharaad Kuttan has crossed over from the BFM bunker to the broadcast frontline; here at Astro Awani.
His signature TV show – Let’s Talk With Sharaad Kuttan airs LIVE daily from 10pm to 11pm; seven days a week on Astro Channel 501 and immediately available via Live Streaming on www.astroawani.com and the whole hosts of social media platforms.
For his debut show, newly-minted Election Commission chairman, Art Harun appeared as studio guest with the topic of discussion naturally focused on the by-election campaigning for the tussle in Port Dickson.
Naturally the chairman was grilled on the campaigning issues raised by various self-appointed watchdogs keen to keep the fight on the beaches clean.
Just to add a little bit of unpredictability to the proceedings, the show had to make room for what we in broadcast media term as `crash’ – interruption of ongoing transmission broadcast to make way for the broadcast of a `breaking news’ event in its place.
So just as Art was getting in his stride just over half-way though proceedings, Sharaad’s show had to make way for the so-called `mega speech’ at the PD election rally by candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Once their speeches were over it was back to the show and Sharaad had the help of Awani reporter on the ground covering the PC campaigning Arfa Yunos to provide her input.
This first outing for Sharaad also featured inputs from two voters – Zedeck Siew and Sharon Chin – who joined the conversation via skype all the way from Port Dickson as well as a phone interview from civil society movement, Bersih representative, SW Yap.
So despite the almost 20-minutes overrun from the designated 60-minute slot, Sharaad’s first episode went without a hitch.
All that is left for viewers out there is to keep up this nightly date from hereon – only on Awani.
