PAS wants DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang to apologise to its members over his statement in questioning the proposed implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.
PAS Syura Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Zawawi Salleh said Lim should exercise caution, especially when speaking at a PAS platform on hudud.
"Lim should respect PAS' policy and not make such a statement," he told reporters after opening the Kelantan PAS Dewan Ulama conference here today.
Lim made the statement during a PAS ceramah (political talk) at Padang Perdana in Kota Baharu on May 10. He was there at the invitation of the PAS Kota Baharu division.
In his speech, Lim objected to the implementation of hudud law and referred to Egypt and Jordan as examples of countries which did not implement the Islamic law, despite Muslims making up more than 90 per cent of their population.
Meanwhile, in Kuala Lumpur, Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong slammed PAS for calling Gerakan an extreme party for challenging the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code 11 1993 (Amendment 2015) Act.
The law was passed by the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly last March 19. Gerakan had filed an application to seek for leave of the Federal Court to challenge the constitutionality of the law, also known as the hudud law.
"Gerakan has the utmost respect on Islam as the official Federal religion. We want to dispute what PAS leader said that we are extreme because our argument is that the hudud law is unconstitutional and we are taking legal action to get the answer to these confusion," he told reporters after chairing the party's central committee meeting here today.
