Limkokwing University founder and president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing was tonight honoured with the Commonwealth Champions Award for uniting youth from 54 countries through education.
He received the award at the Commonwealth Youth Summit gala dinner at the university here last night, which was attended by 300 participants.
Lim's daughter, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology vice-president (Brand, Creativity and Talent Development) Datuk Tiffanee Marie Lim received the awards on his behalf from Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the Commonwealth of Nations, Dr Josephine Ojiambo.
"I am honoured and humbled by the awards and am proud of my father's achievement," said Tiffanee at the event.
Also present was Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) chairman Kishva Ambigapathy.
In his opening remarks, Ambigapathy said Lim was the eighth recipient of the awards in its history.
"I met Tan Sri many times to discuss creating opportunities and empowerment for young people. I am fascinated with his uncompromising vision for the future in human building capacity.
"He (Lim) is not an ordinary man but a super talented man to inspire, galvanise and transform communities in developing countries," he added.
On the three-day summit which kicked off yesterday, Ambigapathy said it aimed to further advance the youth development agenda by integrating young people into the development work of the Commonwealth at national, regional and Pan-Commonwealth levels.
Yesterday, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales who is currently on an official visit to Malaysia was the guest-of-honour at the summit which took place at the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus in Semenyih, just outside the federal capital.
Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Malaysia on Thursday for an official visit to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
