The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, through the local authorities (JKT) have taken several measures to tackle the typhoid cases occurring in several areas.
The ministry said in a statement Monday that the letter dated Oct 21 had been issued to all local authorities to implement several measures.
"The measures included raising the level of cleanliness at food premises and ensuring that all food handlers had the food handling certificates and to seek the anti-typhoid vaccination," it said.
The ministry added that any incidence of diarrhea among food handlers must be tackled by seeking immediate treatment at the nearest clinics or hospitals.
"According to the news report, 52 cases (of typhoid) had been reported up to Sunday and the JKT will continue to cooperate with the local authorities throughout Malaysia to prevent the disease from spreading further," it said.
