A Malaysian lorry driver working in Singapore was shot dead last night as he was parking his motorcycle upon returning to his flat in Skudai here, police said.

K. Kirubanandan, 41, married with three children, died on the spot at the base of the flats in Taman Tan Sri Yaakob after he was shot five times in the head and body at about 11.30 pm, said Nusajaya Police chief Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad.

He said the assailant had been waiting for Kirubanandan in a four-wheel-drive vehicle and attacked him as he was parking his motorcycle upon returning from a wholesale market nearby.

Noor Hashim said the police recovered five 9mm bullet casings from the place where the shooting took place.

He said the body of Kirubanandan, who did not have any police record, was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

The police have appealed to eye-witnesses to come forward with information.
