The loudest cars that took over the streets of Kuala Lumpur

This might just be a demo race for the five V8 cars, but that did not stop them from driving their wheels off to wow us!

The first sounds that fill the air on Friday was the sound of five powerful V8 cars taking to the streets of Kuala Lumpur. Interestingly, the V8 cars can be easily told apart. The loudest and most distinctive was the Holden racing under the Red Bull Racing Australia team, the Mercedes E63 from Erebus Motorsports has a low pitched drone while the Ford Falcon FGX has a highest pitch drone that would make one new to the sport clap their hands over the ears and the Volvo Polestar S60 has the sweetest drone you can hear from a car.

The V8 supercars are not here for a competitive round, they’re just here for a demo race. Think of this as a break from the usual tense action that you get at every V8 supercar race in the land down under. But that did not stop these five contenders from racing their wheels off for fun! Five drivers: Chaz Mostert, Will Davison, Todd Kelly, Scott McLaughlin and Craig Lowndes will drive the FG X Ford Falcon, Mercedes E63 AMG, Nissan Altima, Volvo Polestar S60 and Holden Commodore at the track in three street challenges respectively.

Todd Kelly had qualified first in his Nissan Altima for Nissan Motorsports. Only 0.062 of a second separates Kelly from Craig Lowndes in the Holden VF for Red Bull Racing Australia team. Chaz Mostert took third in the FG X Ford Falcon for the Pepsi Max Crew while Scott McLaughlin driving for the Volvo Polestar Racing team lined up next to him. Will Davison rounded up the grid in his E63 racing for Erebus Motorsport.

Challenge 1

Kelly lead the race from the start before the field caught up with him and tried to take pole away. Both Mostert and McLaughlin were eager to make up the places, the two piled the pressure on Lowndes in the Holden before making it pass in a number of jaw-dropping edge-of-the-seat overtaking moves at the unlikeliest of corners before proceeding to chase down Kelly.

The race then saw a number of changes for P1. Mostert prevailed and kept the position all the way to the end of the race. McLaughlin settled for second but set the quickest lap of the challenge with a 1min26.385 on the final lap.

Will Davison, on the other hand, fended off first Lowndes then Kelly before attempting to chase down the front runners. Lowndes was suffering from a tyre issue on the final stages of the race and dropped back through the field and had to finish well behind the rest of the field.

So the race had ended with Mostert on top, McLaughlin second and Will Davison in third. Pole sitter Todd Kelly finished fourth while Craig Lowndes settled in fifth place.
