It is a day of tribute when many of the country's major newspapers dedicated their front page to former Kelantan menteri besar and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who passed away at the age of 84 on February 12.

The headlines and photos used on the frontpage were similar across the Bahasa Malaysia and English dailies.

“Ribuan Beri Penghormatan” (Thousands paid their respect) was the headline for Utusan Malaysia.

This headline was accompanied with a photo showing an aerial shot of thousands of people from around the country paying their last respects to Allahyarham Nik Aziz before his burial at Pulau Melaka Muslim cemetery on Friday afternoon.

as for Berita harian its headline read “Bersatu Iringi Jenazah” (United In Accompanying The Body).

Sinar Harian gave a full-page tribute to Nik Aziz with the headline “Ramai Sayang Tok Guru” (Many Love Tok Guru).

Kosmo! meanwhile chose the headline “50,000 orang hadiri pengebumian Nik Aziz” (50,000 attended Nik Aziz’s funeral) for its frontpage while Harian Metro went with “Pesan Terakhir Tok Guru” (Tok Guru’s last message).

As for English newspapers, The New Straits Times chose “Al-Fatihah” as its headline.

The Star however only dedicated only a small section at the top-right corner with “Paying Their Respects” as the headline.

The Malay Mail chose “Love To The End” as the headline for its full-page tribute. It also included an aerial shot of the Pulau Melaka Mosque, Kota Bharu where thousand were seen paying their respect to the reknowned PAS spiritual leader.

Nik Aziz was laid to rest on Friday morning at 11am amidst thousands of his supporters at Kampung Pulau Melaka Muslim cemetery.

Funeral prayers were held at 10am at the Tok Guru Mosque in Pulau Melaka, where about 30,000 people were estimated to have attended.

He had passed away peacefully at his home in Kampung Pulau Melaka, Kota Bharu, Kelantan at 9.40pm Thursday.
