Salaries of civil servants should be in line with the rising cost of living in order to avoid financial dependence on other sources.
The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) does not rule out that the issue of low salary among civil servants can cause corruption and abuse of power.
Its president Datuk Azih Muda said that the salaries of civil servants should be in line with the rising cost of living in order to avoid financial dependence on other sources.
“Cuepacs hope that this approach should be in line with the index of goods prices and consumer prices so that it can be sustainable for civil servants. When there are sustainability in terms of financial resources, such integrity issues can be stopped or avoided.
“Therefor they are no longer depended on other sources. If the pay is enough, their salary will be very important to them,” he told the press during the 2017 Labour Day celebration organised by Cuepacs, here, today.
In fact, he wants more government agencies to sign the pledge to nurture a corruption-free culture among civil servants.
He added that the low wage issue is also related to the serious case of debt involving more than 62,000 civil servants through out the country.
“Therefore we ask for a complete solution to help these people without effecting those concerned.
“We try to help them get out of this situation and I am sure all parties will the positive side on how we can help them and then solve this problem,” he said.
