Low Yat brawl: Police close off Low Yat entrance, four detained

At least four people have been detained for theft and rioting following the brawl at Low Yat Plaza recently.

Police have also opened two investigation papers under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 379 of the Penal code for rioting and theft, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa.

“We guarantee to carry out the investigation without fear or favour and we will be fair to both parties.

“Give the police time to conclude the investigation,” he said when met at Low Yat Plaza on Sunday.

He also urged the public not to believe rumours being spread on social media.

Commenting on the incident near Low Yat Plaza earlier tonight, he said, a group of men had congregated at the entrance of the plaza at around 8.30pm.

“A suspect has been detained today for trying to provoke the group,” he said.

A witness at the scene said the group had converged in the area at around 6pm and walked to the entrance of Low Yat Plaza at around 8.30pm.

Police arrived at around 9pm to maintain the crowd and closed the entrance to the premises.

Meanwhile Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar posted on his Twitter account that no brawl or riot broke out at Low Yat Plaza on Sunday night.

He also urged social media users to not believe rumours regarding the incident.

He added the incident is not a racial issue, only between two warring parties.

“The RMP will take action on both warring parties. This is not related to racial tension. Only two warring parties,” he tweeted.
