Blogger Papa Gomo and activist ‘Ali Tinju’ has been remanded for two day under the Sedition Act for publishing false information regarding the incident that erupted at Low Yat Plaza which had angered the public.
Lawyer Ahmad Shuaib Ismail, who is representing both Papa Gomo and Ali Tinju said, initially police had applied to remand the duo for four days the magistrate had only allowed two days, reported The Malaysian Insider.
Ahmad Shuaib said, the duo had been detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
‘Ali Tinju’, whose real name is Mohd Ali Baharom and is also the Malay Armed Forces Veterans Association President, was detained for his statement in a video while Papa Gomo or Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris was detained for his Twitter post.
Among his posts that had attracted attention on social media was a photo of a man covered in blood and linked to the Low Yat Plaza incident.
The photo was then found to be linked to another case.
Meanwhile, Bagan UMNO division head Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin has also been detained by police.
According to a Bernama report, 24 people were released on Wednesday on police bail.
Those released included four handphone traders at the plaza and a rioter which had been involved in the ruckus, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad was reported as saying.
The Low Yat Plaza incident began on Saturday after a man had reportedly visited the complex to by a Lenovo S860 handphone for RM800.
The man is said to have run off with the handphone.
Employees of the store then gave chase and the suspect had been detained and handed over to police.
The suspect’s friends then reportedly visited the plaza and attacked the employees of the store.
A fight then broke out between two group outside Low Yat Plaza on Sunday after police have ordered a large group outside the premises to disperse.
