The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a former Municipal Council president with the title "Datuk" in connection with a graft case involving several projects and abuse of power.

Suspect was believed to have committed the offences when he held the position of District Officer and City Council head between Sept 2009 and August 2016.

The suspect, 63, has retired and was detained at his residence in Seremban around 11.30am today.

Also detained were three contractors believed to be involved in granting several projects to the district office and city council where the suspect worked.

A source close to the case said that early investigation revealed that the suspect had gone for a holiday abroad with the contractors in Sept 2015.

The source added that the holiday packages included Indonesia golf tour in Medan, sponsored by the contractors.

It is also understood that the contractors had also purchased a Toyota Camry for the suspect.

The purchases were not presented in the acquisition and budget meeting.

MACC Investigation Director, Datuk Simi Abd.Ghani when contacted confirmed the arrest and said that MACC is in the midst to identify several other individuals linked to the case.

MACC has also confiscated several documents from the suspect’s house during the arrest.
