MACC arrests prison warden for alleged bribery

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained prison warden for allegedly receiving bribes to allow the entry of forbidden items meant for several inmates.
Perlis MACC director Yaacop Angah said the 33 year-old prison warden attached to the State Correctional Centre, was arrested at the MACC office, here at 7pm yesterday.
"Investigation found that the suspect received bribes of between RM200 to RM1,500 each time, making a total of RM3,300.
"The bribes were received in March 2017 via his personal bank account," he said in a statement today.
The case is investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009. Offenders face a 20-year prison sentence and a fine of up to five times the value of the bribe upon conviction.
