The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been asked to continue its investigation into SRC International Sdn Bhd and the RM2.6 billion donation.
The recommendation was made by the commission’s Operations Review panel (ORP) during its meeting this morning, the MACC said in a statement today.
On the RM26 billion fund, the panel recommended that MACC seek Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali's assistance in issuing a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) for the commission to obtain evidence from overseas financial institutions.
The panel also agreed that the MACC should resubmit its investigations papers regarding SRC International to the AG for review.
On Dec 31, 2015, the MACC had submitted its investigation papers on SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation to the AG. Mohamad Apandi had said he would study the documents closely, noting that evidence had been compiled from more than 100 witnesses.
On Jan 18, the AG returned both investigations papers back to the commission to seek 'better explanation of some of MACC's proposed suggestions and actions'.
Eight days later, Mohamad Apandi cleared Datuk Seri Najib Razak's of any wrongdoing in the two cases, citing insufficient evidence to implicate the premier.
The MACC subsequently sought the ORP to review the AG's order to close both cases.
