KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has vehemently denied allegation from a coalition of several political parties that the investigation agency was used as a 'political weapon' in carrying out its actions.
In a media statement on Saturday, the MACC also stressed that the investigation agency was independent and always ensured that its actions were based on the law.
"The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) vehemently denies allegation from a coalition of several political parties that the commission has been used as a 'political weapon' in carrying out its actions.
"It is to be emphasised that the MACC is an independent investigative agency and always ensures that its actions are based on the law without involving political leanings," the media statement said.
In fact, the allegation is considered baseless and irresponsible because the matter can affect the image of the MACC and thus create a negative perception among the community towards the investigation agency.
Earlier, the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council in a statement on Friday, strongly condemned the misuse of government agencies as a political weapon to gain support from Opposition MPs for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council claimed that there were a series of actions from agencies including the MACC, Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and other agencies to put pressure on Opposition MPs. officers and even their family members.
