The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified several Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers and staff suspected of abusing their power to gain windfall, Utusan Malaysia reported today.
Citing unnamed source, the Malay daily said, MACC was now conducting further probe to obtain several documents and information to help in its investigations.
According to the source, the DBKL officers and staff were believed to have enjoyed the convenience of booking condominium or apartment units, especially from housing project developers, without paying the premium money.
“Preliminary investigation has found out, it was true many of them have obtained the facility without making any advance payments, and they only signed the sale and purchase agreement with the developers as if the deal was conducted legally,” a source was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia.
When contacted, MACC investigations director Datuk Azam Baki confirmed to the newspaper that the investigation was being carried out.
He said the investigation focused on alleged corruption and abuse of power.
