MACC to launch "KEJAR 17" to fight corruption

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is launching an expedition, "Kembara Jelajah Anti Rasuah (KEJAR) 17", as an initiative to encourage the public to fight corruption and power abuse.

Its director (Social Education), Datuk Abdul Samat Kasah said the 12-day expedition, beginning Sept 18, would involve the participation of 44 motorcycles and two buses which would be used to carry senior officers of the commission.

"Through this KEJAR programme, the MACC officers will go from one state to another to meet the people and explain to them the many types of corruption and power abuse.

"We want the society to not only hate corruption, but also to refuse or solicit bribe that they are willing to report and come forward to be witnesses," he said when invited to be a guest in a Bernama radio programme today.

He said the public should not be afraid to report or provide information on corruption as they would be protected by law.

Meanwhile, Abdul Samat said more than 45,000 people had registered as MACC's "Sahabat Gerakan Revolusi Anti Rasuah (GERAH)" which was formed to get the public to be the commission's eyes and ears.
