A former secretary and an accountant of the Joint Management Body (JMB) of a condominium here were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today on suspicion of misappropriating RM1.5 million.
The suspects, aged 53 and 27 years, are believed to have carried out the misappropriation since 2010.
According to a source, the misdeed was uncovered when the salaries of the staff of the JMB company, which maintained more than 500 condominium units, were unpaid from June 2016.
"The former secretary was detained at his house in Old Klang Road at 10.30 am while the accountant was nabbed in Sungai Petani, Kedah at 1.30 pm.
"Other than being the JMB's secretary in 2012, the suspect had also held a general manager's post of an associate company of the JMB in 2010," the source told Bernama.
The source said both the suspects were expected to be taken to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court for remand orders and that the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
Meanwhile, MACC deputy chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Azam Baki when contacted by Bernama confirmed the arrests.
"To date, MACC has recorded the statements of several witnesses who are believed to be able to help in investigations into the case other than seizing several documents and laptop computers from the two suspects," he added. - BERNAMA
