JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested the owner of a contractor service company and an assistant engineer at the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) for allegedly submitting false documents involving claims of over RM350,000.

Sources said the duo had submitted false documents to obtain approval for works from MBIP which included road scraping and resurfacing as well as repainting of parking lots, from 2018 until 2020.

"The man and woman, aged 36 and 45, were arrested at about 6 pm yesterday at the Johor MACC office to assist with the ongoing investigation.

"The investigation revealed that the assistant engineer had conspired with the company owner, who has two registered companies, by submitting false documents and certificates," the sources said today.

According to the source, the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Government Procurement Working Certificate, CIDB Malaysia Registration Certificate and Finance Ministry's Bumiputera Status Certificate which contained false material details were submitted to the MBIP to obtain work approval.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the offence committed, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Nurmadiana Mamat allowed the remand application from the MACC for both individuals from today until Aug 14.
