MACC officer remanded for three days for allegedly demanding bribe from policeman
Roslee said police are investigating how much the suspect had extorted in the period.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) who was detained yesterday for allegedly demanding bribe from a policeman has been remanded for three days until Monday.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nurulrasyidah Mohd Akit at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate Court today.
The 37-year-old suspect attached to the Intelligence Unit (North Zone) at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
He was arrested at a restaurant in Machang Bubok, Bukit Mertajam at 10.15pm last night.
Police also confiscated several items from the suspect when he was detained including MACC authority card, cash worth RM3,000 a Volkswagen Polo sedan car and handphone.
The suspect is believed to have demanded that the policeman pays him RM3,000 every month to avoid being arrested by the MACC.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
Meanwhile, Penang deputy police chief Datuk Roslee Chik when contacted said the suspect is believed to have been extorting policemen for the last two years.
Roslee said police are investigating how much the suspect had extorted in the period.
