MACC urged to expedite probe into graft in Cameron Highlands
He said appropriate action should be taken against those involved.
The Menteri Besar of Pahang Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob hopes the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will expedite investigations into the alleged existence of corruption and abuse of power in the Cameron Highlands.
This practice has led to widespread illegal clearing of land causing severe mudslides in the highlands.
He said appropriate action should be taken against those involved.
"I hope MACC will continue and expedite investigations because it is hinted in the news and newspapers that there is (protection) from politicians.
"The state government has never interfered with the law," he told reporters after the launching of the Wisma Kastam Sultan Ahmad Shah by the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah in Bandar Indera Mahkota, today.
Adnan said the state government through the District Council, Land and Mines Office and Forestry Department does not have enough staff nor financial provisions to handle any problems that occur in the highlands.
"It's not easy for a small number of law enforcement agencies staff to take action, not only that, they are faced with various threats, including death threats.
"Thus, the Federal Government will take the effort to carry out the operation as it deems fit and the state government will provide full support," he said.
Yesterday, MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Mustafar Ali said the commission had received a number of reports and information involving illegal logging and land clearing on the highlands.
