The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has given to midnight for the person who attempted to bribe the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar for an award to surrender to the commission headquarters in Putrajaya.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said if the order was not complied with, the name and picture of the person would be revealed.

"We know he is still in the country and we have also sought the cooperation of related authorities to block him from leaving the country.

"He knows we are looking for him and if he still refuses to come forward, we will arrest him after the deadline," he told reporters after an MACC Excellent Service Award ceremony here today.

He was commenting on the action of MACC following a meeting between MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and senior officers with Sultan Ibrahim at the federal capital on the bribery allegation.

On March 25, the Johor Sultan revealed he had received a RM2 million offer from an individual to propose his name to the Chief Secretary to the Government to obtain the title 'Tan Sri' from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

On whether it was necessary to record an official statement from Sultan Ibrahim, Azam said for the time being, the effort was focused on apprehending the person first.

"The Sultan has provided the information and we need to get the individual first for further action," he said. - BERNAMA
