MACC: The setting up of JKNMPP was in line with a suggestion which the commission had made since its establishment in 2009.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) welcomes the setting up of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP) that was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday.
It was formed to draw up a political funding action plan of integrity that is comprehensive and inclusive.
In a statement here today, MACC said it was willing to provide inputs and views for the action plan and hoped the action plan could be implemented as soon as possible to enhance the confidence of members of political parties, the people and also the future generation.
The announcement on the setting up of JKNMPP, it said, was in line with a suggestion which the commission had made since its establishment in 2009.
MACC had suggested to the government to study the need for contributions for political funding to be deposited into party accounts, instead of personal accounts or those of the trustees to ensure transparency, it said.
The commission said it also hoped the action plan to be drawn up would include a component requiring members of the government's administration to declare all form of donations and gifts they received.
This is important to create a mechanism which is comprehensive, it said.
