MACC-City Hall joint task force to identify weaknesses

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall have set up a joint task force to identify weaknesses in City Hall's systems and procedures with a view of improving them.

MACC, in a statement today, said the task force is headed by MACC Investigation director Datuk Azam Baki and its members comprising officers from the MACC Inspection and Consultancy Division, MACC Investigation Division and City Hall's Integrity Department.

"The setting up of the team is a joint effort being taken after several government officials were investigated recently for abuse of power and embezzlement.

"For a start, the team has identified five issues related to practices, systems and work procedures involving five departments in City Hall," it said.

The issues identified were on management of privatisation housing projects, guidelines on property purchase by officers and staff, ownership and declaration of assets, management of People's Housing Project and Public Housing and the monitoring of land development in the capital.

MACC hoped its cooperation with City Hall would prompt other agencies to work with the commission to curb power abuse and corruption in the public sector. -- Bernama
