MAHB issued Certificate of Non-Completion to UEMC-Bina Puri JV

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the country's airport operator, has issued the Certificate of Non-Completion to UEMC-Bina Puri JV.

The certificate, which was issued today, was for the joint-venture's inability to complete the work on klia2 by the approved deadline of June 15, 2013.

"The liquidated and ascertained damages of RM199,445.50 per day is hereby invoked beginning June 16, 2013," said MAHB in its filing to Bursa Malaysia on Monday.

The klia2, which initially expected to be open end of this month, is expected to start operation some time next year. MAHB has yet to announce the new opening date of klia2.

UEMC-Bina Puri JV, the contractor for the main terminal building of klia2, won the RM997.2 million contract in June 2010.

UEM Construction Sdn Bhd, a unit of UEM Group Bhd, holds a 60 per cent stake in the joint venture.
