MAHB still awaiting Boeing 747 owner to furnish details

Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (Malaysia Airports) is still awaiting the rightful owner of the three abandoned Boeing 747s at the KL International Airport (KLIA) to furnish the required ownership information for verification purposes.

The three aircraft had been parked in KLIA since 2010 by Air Atlanta Icelandic, an aircraft leasing company which was then the owner of the aircraft, said Malaysia Airports in a statement issued here today.

Air Atlanta Icelandic subsequently deregistered the aircraft and dissolved responsibility over them when the ownership was transferred to Shaanxi Sunshine Cargo.

The statement added Malaysia Airports had been in communication with the China based company regarding the parking charges and the relocation of aircraft until 2013 when the company ceased operations.

As part of debt recovery process, Malaysia Airports had issued an advertisement on Dec 7, 2015 in two local newspapers to serve as notice to the owner of the aircraft.

Yesterday an English daily reported that the missing owner of the aircraft had come forward and in fact claimed that they had been in contact with Malaysia Airports all the while.

The daily reported Swift Air Cargo chief executive officer Captain Blue Peterson claimed the three Boeing 747s that were featured in the newspaper advertisements on Dec 7 belonged to the company.

He was quoted as saying: "All the many various supporting documents, clearly state that Swift is the owner of all three B747s".
