Maid sentenced to 20 years for abusing baby

The Kuantan Sessions Court on Tuesday sentenced an Indonesian maid to 20 years' jail after she pleaded guilty on two charges of abusing a four-year-old baby last Friday.

Judge Mohd Azhar Othman said what was done by Yuliana, 23, was a "very serious offence".

For the first offence, Yuliana was charged for throwing and slamming Mohamed Hareez Mohamed Zamri nine times at 7.45 am at the victim’s parent’s house in Jalan Bukit Setongkol, Kuantan.

The woman was charged under Section 301(1) of the Penal Code.

For the second offence, the woman was charged for abusing Mohamed Hareez with the intention of causing hurt which under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Yuliana was sentenced to 15 years of jail for the first offence and five years for the second offence.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamed.

Earlier, the accused did not display any reaction when she was shown the CCTV recording of the incident.

Yuliana, from Sukarame, Acheh worked at the victim’s house less than a day before she was caught on camera.
