MAIJ introduces JQTA system to control quality of tahfiz institutions

The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ) will introduce the Johor Tahfiz Quality Assurance System (JQTA) to control the quality of tahfiz (Quran memorisation) institutions in the state.

Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah Institute (IASWJ) director, Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Razak Omar said IASWJ would monitor the system together with MAIJ.

"The JQTA system is under the jurisdiction of MAIJ and we will help in terms of monitoring and implementation of the system," he said.

He said this when met at the opening of the Wakaf (donation for religious purpose) Cooperation between MAIJ and IASWJ with Madrasah (religious school) Tahfiz Al-Quran Al-Mutaqqin in Bukit Pasir, here last night.

The ceremony was opened by MAIJ adviser, Datuk Nooh Gadut.

Abdul Razak said the College of Islamic Studies (MARSAH) was given the responsibility to develop the system in terms of curriculum, facility management and finance to turn out tahfiz institutions of high quality.

He said Johor had 300 madrasah but not all observed quality and used different modules.

He said Johor was the first state to implement the system such as that at the Higher Education Ministry to monitor universities in the country.

"This system is akin to recognition by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) to universities in Malaysia but JQTA which is to be used to evaluate tahfiz madrasah is the first in the country," he said.

He said Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Al-Mutaqqin, which was donated to MAIJ and IASWJ, became the first madrasah to implement the JQTA system.
